National Accountability Bureau NAB
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is an autonomous and constitutionally established organization of the Government of Pakistan. It was formed in 1999 with the purpose of combating corruption and ensuring transparency in public institutions.
NAB has its headquarters in Islamabad, and also has regional offices in all the four provinces of Pakistan. The organization is headed by a Chairman who is appointed by the Government of Pakistan for a term of four years.
NAB is empowered to take action against corrupt individuals and officials in the public sector, as well as in the private sector if they are involved in any corrupt practices that impact the national economy. The Bureau is also authorized to conduct investigations, file criminal cases, and prosecute suspects in the courts of law.
The scope of NAB’s activities is vast, and includes investigations against politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen, and other individuals who are believed to be involved in corrupt activities. In addition to investigating corruption cases, NAB also conducts awareness and preventive campaigns to educate the public about corruption and its harmful impacts on society.
NAB’s performance is monitored by an independent monitoring committee, which reviews NAB’s progress and makes recommendations to improve its functioning. The Bureau’s operations are audited by the Auditor General of Pakistan, and its financial affairs are closely scrutinized by the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly of Pakistan.
In summary, NAB is a highly respected and effective organization in Pakistan that is committed to fighting corruption and ensuring transparency in government institutions. Its actions help promote good governance, accountability, and economic development in the country.
